Growth at LSE Prompts New Logo

To help it expand its service area, Lower Shore Enterprises is adopting a new logo.

The new logo , installed recently on a new Route 50 sign, features bright red letters, LSE, an abbreviation of Lower Shore Enterprises.

The award-winning training and employment placement service for workers with disabilities now draws production workers from the Mid-Shore, and delivers career assessment services to all nine Mid, Upper, and Lower Shore counties, plus Sussex County.

"We want workers with disabilities to work in their home towns with local employers , and we want our name to suggest that local service,.” said mike Purkey, executive director.

"That said ,our heart will always be on the Lower shore, and that's where we have our production facility," he said.

Lower Shore Enterprises has won five state and national awards in the last three years, largely because of its growth. Last year, the facility placed 106 workers with disabilities in competitive employment, up from 32 workers seven years ago.

Similar growth has occurred in the production department, where workers are paid to do contract assembly, packaging and shipping work. The number of workers in the department has nearly doubled, rising to about 100 workers from 55 workers seven years ago.

Lower Shore Enterprises has continued to innovate with the creation of a job retention coaching position. By monitoring the progress of workers who have their own jobs and maintaining a close relationship with their employers, one coach has placed nine workers in jobs and saved four workers’ jobs.

“This coach’s goal for the year was to place ten workers, and in just six months, she has placed nine workers. This shows how much employers appreciate our staying in touch,” said Mr. Purkey.

Inside Works

To help workers succeed after they start their own jobs, LSE provides a unique monitoring service. Thanks to a $50,000 private grant, an LSE job retention coach closely follows the progress of workers. No other agency in our region provides such thorough support, to the best of our knowledge.
